Counselling for Teens in
White Rock and South Surrey, BC
Counselling teens is an area of my practice that I am particularly passionate about. Teens who come to counselling are often brought in by concerned parents or under the recommendation of their schools, so it is particularly important to build rapport and to help the teen see the value of counselling for themselves — this is something I take great pride in doing well.
Demands of school, negotiating independence at home, navigating relationships, worries about the future, dealing with the onslaught of media messages and ever-present technology — it is little wonder that the teenage years can be a time of great distress and conflict. In the face of these stressors anxiety, depression, low self worth, substance misuse, suicidal thoughts, and self injury such as cutting can take hold.
Individual counselling, parent-teen counselling, and parent education can be effective to improve communication, strengthen relationships, and help your teen navigate these difficult years with safety and success. I am passionate about working with gender diverse clients and have a LGBTQ informed practice. In addition, I am experienced working with neurodiverse teens such as those with Autism or FASD.
I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Attachment-Based Therapies for teens and use a collaborative, strength-based approach that takes into account your teens developmental needs.
